First Post and a new begining. Link to heading
This site is intended as a place to showcase some of my work and thoughts on IT leadership and IT in general. I hope to share some things that people find interesting and hopefully spark some conversation. I have been in the IT industry for a long time. Starting in 1997 working on a number of Y2K related projects. I have worked in a bunch of different industries from point of sale systems, to manufacturing, to healthcare. I am always looking for new challenges and new ideas. I have always had a love of technology and continue to try and stay up on new trends and concepts. If in my personal home lab or electronics with my kid you can always find me tinkering with something.
I was exposed to computers at a very young age and never really stopped exploring. I’ve been writing code in some from since I was about 6 starting with GW-Basic and moving though different languages as time and needs progressed. Writing personal projects along the way as I explored different ideas and concepts. When I started applying what I loved in real world context I fell in love with the industry, and have been involved ever since.
I am a huge proponent of Open Source Software and Technology and have been an OSS advocate most of my career. Not only do I believe in the privacy and security concepts behind Open Source, I fully believe it’s the best way to develop software when ever possible. Some of the things I write in this space will likely be related to OSS is some way. Along that same vain I don’t really do Windows, I haven’t worked on a Microsoft system in any real capacity in about 15 years. While I am interested in the enterprise side of what Microsoft does, I wouldn’t really know what to do with a windows workstation.
My Latest obsession as of late has been containerized systems and container orchestration. I find the tech involved fascinating and really enjoy working with the systems. Mostly I’ve been playing around with the Hashicorp stack including Nomad, Consul, and Vault. The interconnection between the services is really interesting and fun to play around with. I often self host apps both to get a better handle on their deployment modalities as well as learning about the apps themselves.
I have also been trying to get more involved in the community as of late. Going to meetups, conferences and working groups inside the OSS community as well as any other tech stack that interests me. I would be excited to connect with more people about the projects and tech they are passionate about and see what sort of things we could come up with.
